Despite decades of innovations and the relentless rate of new ideas, the software industry continues to fall behind the needs of businesses. Most teams struggle every couple of years or so, finding it harder to keep pace with demands or adapt your crown jewel, the software. There is an entire industry that aims to help companies overcome these issues. But, the current approaches and so-called 'best practices' will only get you so far. History will repeat itself.
The best of the best are always looking for ways to improve. Whether you are excelling and want to extend your lead or have the typical digital product development challenges, we can help.
The Software Surgery was founded by two experts who have over 50 years of experience in the software industry. They have remained at the forefront of academic research and breakthroughs whilst remaining hands-on in the industry, leading numerous complex technical programmes and developments.
They have worked with groundbreaking innovations proving their benefits and are passionate about increasing their adoption into mainstream software development.
At The Software Surgery, our goal is simple: to guide and support businesses to a fundamentally better way of developing software products and systems.
Through our four core service areas, experience, and broadly skilled teams, we help businesses succeed by taming and unblocking their software development and product delivery, achieving more with less, and dramatically reducing the costs, risks and complexities of your software development and maintenance lifecycle.
Buying the latest technology won’t make you a Technology-led business. A single Software Quality initiative won’t transform your Quality Culture. A switch to the Cloud won’t fix your challenges with the speed of development. Moving to microservices won't resolve your dependency issues. So-called best practices won’t always put you ahead of your competitors. If you want to feel the full commercial impact of your software product, you need to look at software development in a different way. And we'll help you do this.
The Software Surgery: Redefining Software Solutions
When founders Scott and Piotr launched The Software Surgery, they aimed to revolutionise software consulting after witnessing the crippling impact of outdated software development practices on businesses. Worse still is the impact of only partial adoption of modern practices.
Determined to bring change, they created the "Holos Framework" to transform software development and maintenance. They assembled a small team of skilled professionals who shared their vision.
The Holos Framework challenged conventions by prioritising simplicity, holistic thinking, and scalability. It aimed to reduce costs, mitigate risks, and simplify software development complexities.
Today, The Software Surgery epitomises fast, agile, and value-driven product and software development. Join us to unlock your development team's potential and modernise your technology.

With over 50 years of combined experience, they have accumulated invaluable insights from both successes and setbacks, building their vast knowledge of what works and what does not.
Their partnership has thrived for over a decade, and their collaborative journey has been enriched by engagements with renowned industry experts.
Scott (Co-founder)
A Software & Product Development professional with three decades of experience specialising in software and product research & development.
A Lean & Agile Pioneer who took his experience of lean principles from the hardware R&D and manufacturing world into the software industry in the late 1990s. In the early 2000s, Scott was mentored by Ashley Johnson of Gemba Systems, who also inspired the likes of Liz Keough and Dan North in their work. Scott had been pioneering these progressive and many other agile practices behind closed doors at Xerox throughout the 2000s. January 2012 saw Scott start to bring this expertise out into our community.
Scott is an experienced technologist with hands-on experience in software development & architecture across embedded, distributed (IoT), data, web and mobile technologies.
A respected mentor, Scott says "I was fortunate to work with and learn from many of the pioneers in our field such as James Grenning, Bob Martin and Craig Larman. I remember how they inspired me to think differently, to aspire for better...much better, and the sheer passion for our profession. I want others to experience this contagious enthusiasm and I try to do my bit for our profession, in any little way that I can."
Piotr (Co-founder)
Highly experienced (>25 years) technologist specialising in high-performance teams, agile transformations, business agility, product development, software engineering, software quality, security, data and risk management.
Still very technically "hands-on" and in his own words "was lucky enough to turn his lifelong passions into careers" and "still gets excited by the technologies".
Over the years Piotr has worked with and learnt from renowned industry experts and academics in the areas of Event Storming, Domain Modelling, Software Engineering, Quality, IT Security, Risk Analysis and Risk Management.
Recently Piotr has developed a deep interest in how to help the commercial, business and product folk work collaboratively to enable the business to maximise the value it gets from its cross-functional product development teams.
A lot of Piotr's focus has been in the areas of software quality, team productivity, and methodologies to enable teams to better "reason about their code. A key part of this is how to remove accreted incidental complexity and how to simplify all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
Through helping less experienced engineers to learn and to help them progress in their careers Piotr is able to keep his knowledge and skill set constantly evolving.
Piotr believes that lifelong learning is key, especially in software and product development.
We have 4 goals:
